Studio Visit: Kristy Hussey

With a background in science and a practice centered around themes of fragility, resilience and rebelliousness, Kristy Hussey likes to push clay to its limits. Hussey works in her studio in Cheltenham Victoria, Boonwurrung Country. An exhibition of her work shows at Michael Reid Northern Beaches in December 2021.

“My studio is in a 1950s factory in the increasingly gentrified Melbourne suburb of Cheltenham. It is my personal space – a priceless luxury for a wife and mother of two young children. When I am there I am completely lost in my work. It is meditative. I love the solitude, the time, mental and physical space to create and experiment.”
