Studio Visit: Angela McHugh

Angela McHugh’s portraits and landscapes explore personal connections to flora, fauna, history and place.

Her studio is a mere 10 metres from the back deck of her home in North Brisbane/Meanjin, constructed under the canopy of an enormous Poinciana tree. While it is very much a new build, designed and constructed by husband Steve, many fittings and furnishings within her studio have been street finds or objects rescued from Facebook Marketplace.

“Travel restrictions and a sense of cabin fever during 2020 were the catalyst that inspired the demolition of a disused chook pen to make way for this creative space.” – Angela McHugh
