Ones to Watch: Kim Passalaqua

THE ART EDIT TEAM PRESENTS THE ARTISTS ON ITS RADAR RIGHT NOW.

Kim Passalaqua’s latest series came from working on the banks of the Murray River. “For months this was my studio, and to hear the river flowing by, the cockatoos calling in the treetops, and to be part of the landscape has been a highlight of my career,” says Kim. Working en plein air became integral to Kim’s practice. About this method she says: “I like to slow things down, to observe and search for the minutest parts of beauty in my environment.” This immersion in her environment allowed Kim to gain a deep appreciation and understanding of her surroundings, resulting in emotionally rich works, saturated in discovery and natural beauty.

Kim Passalaqua, Flourish. Acrylic on canvas, 105 x 125cm.
