In a recent series made for her first Sydney exhibition BEAUTY + THE BUSH, Gill Pedrana playfully depicts a number of introduced species in soft pastel hued, nonrepresentational landscapes. In this way, Gill explores the fragility of the rugged Australian country. Gill starts her works with a red coat of paint. Then, once the piece is finished, she draws into the completed wet painting to reveal a red line. These lines symbolise the extremes of passion, energy and primal forces; perhaps a warning about the upset to the fragility of our ecosystem. This unique, signature technique imbues Gill’s work with drama and intrigue.
