Ones to Watch: Blak Douglas

THE ART EDIT TEAM PRESENTS THE ARTISTS ON ITS RADAR RIGHT NOW.

After winning this year’s prestigious Kilgour Prize at the Newcastle Art Gallery with his portrait of Indigenous actress Ursula Yovich, and being named a finalist in the recent Mosman Art Prize with his work Blak burning at birthday cake rock, it is clear Blak Douglas is one artist to keep your eye on. Trained in illustration and photography, Blak’s style is influenced by the study of graphic design and a strong political stance on Indigenous rights, culture and history. Blak’s keen sense of humour and strong sense of social justice carries into each of his works.
