We invite a designer to create a room to best display each of the four artworks we’ve selected. This issue, industry-leading interior designer Brooke Aitken takes up the challenge.
Miranda Hampson’s symbolic artwork exudes dynamic energy and fluidity, yet beneath its surface lies a profound sense of depth and intricacy, accentuated by its cool, ocean-like colour palette. The piece invites prolonged contemplation, making it an ideal centrepiece for a dining room, where it can be the backdrop for both long dinner conversations and contemplative moments. I suggest striking a juxtaposition between artwork and furniture, with the use of the sculptural black Desalto Clay oval table with the & Tradition Drawn Chair in black lacquered oak creating a dialogue of tension and harmony with artisanal craftsmanship and materials. Grounding this ensemble is a Moroccan Tuareg rug from Kulchi which adds a cultural richness and rough texture to what otherwise is a fairly polished collection. Finally, the inclusion of a sculptural pendant by Anna Karlin provides a playful finishing touch, echoing the movement in the artwork.
