Janno Mclaughlin, cocoon totems, keep dancing, 2022. Mixed media, hand stitching and synthetic polymer on canvas, 183 x 183cm. $8,000. Courtesy: the artist.

Such bold and brave hues as Janno Mclaughlin’s cocoon totems, keep dancing call for equally brave interiors! This piece would sit well in an eclectic home with pattern clashing and layering of old and new. To start, I would style it on a soft pink wall, to allow the colours to pop. Given the artwork is large in scale, I would style with an oversized generous sofa such as the Palisades from Molmic, covered in the flecked pink, highly textured fabric Pilot by Raf Simons, with cherry red Reflex cushions by the same designer for accent. Sitting atop a beautiful vintage rug equally bold to the artwork, and the suspended looped red statement CEILING LAMP N5 in powder coated steel from Spence and Lyda, this room would excite with its visual interest.
