A cobalt blue sky circles around a golden plain of wheat crops, while the milky green of yellow gums and paperbarks front up against a vivid pink. In his more than 30-year career as an artist Wayne Elliott has completed just two paintings of the Pink Lake found in Dimboola in Victoria’s Wimmera region. This latest one, aptly titled Pink Lake, was completed 20 years after the first and serves as a refinement of his practice, his view of the lake and of the Australian landscape more broadly. While Wayne presents us with a bird’s eye view of Pink Lake, his reconfiguration of perspective simultaneously shows us a macro and micro view of his subject.
