Surrounded by the scenic valley views of Tambourine Mountain, Gold Coast-based artist Tamara Armstrong’s vibrant paintings are an ode to colour, pattern, and nature. With a studio only minutes away from ancient rainforests and tranquil green fields, her art clearly reflects the beauty of her natural surroundings. Tamara has mastered her own personal style in her preferred medium of acrylic paint, with more than 12 years experience as an arts educator and nine years as a professional artist. Drawing from the Samoan side of her family, she paints the lived experience of her cultural heritage and her art is often inspired by lush landscapes and fierce women of colour. Melanin Garden – a finalist in the Brisbane Portrait Prize – depicts Brisbane-based poet, writer and performer Anisa Nandaula beneath fractured light. Anisa wears a custom flower crown, set against a uniquely fragmented botanical background. As a passionate social advocate, Anisa is an image of grace and empowered beauty. Tamara’s works are more than just portraits – they are deeply lasting memoiries.
