THE ART EDIT TEAM TAKES A CLOSER LOOK AT THESE ARTWORKS

The work: Ruth Cadioli, Grass Portal. Acrylics, canvas, wood and ply, 56 x 56cm.

Ruth Cadioli’s works are like dream-like portals into new worlds. Heavily influenced by the surreal and the intangible, Ruth gains inspiration from storybooks and the nostalgia of childhood memories. “A lot of the pieces are about the future and past simultaneously,” says Ruth. “They are depictions of an envisioned future that I long for, what I imagine it to be like based on nostalgic memories and experiences of the past.” Grass Portal focuses on Ruth’s associations with grass – the  warmth and freedom of long, inviting tendrils on bare feet. One can almost feel the sensation of the blades brushing past bare calves and knees. The stacked, symmetrical frame draws the viewer into the work while the neon to dark green and purple has a kaleidoscopic effect. What is achieved is an instant transportation back to childhood play and associated youthful memory.
