With a practice spanning drawing, painting, sculpture and installation, the work of Kim Bennett seeks to question the structures of power and value that situate humans as the dominating force of nature. Her work Sear, created using charcoal, acrylic and oil paints, explores Australia’s history of bushfires, while also drawing upon the relationship between manmade and natural materials. “Focussing on the interrelationship of materials and space,” she says, “my works speak to the tensions that arise from humanity’s relationship with nature in the context of the Anthropocene and associated climate change.”
