How would you describe your art?
My art is part of my identity – it’s an expression of myself and the things and places I love. My aesthetic is considered, and my inspiration varies from the natural landscape to music, interiors and fashion. I always aim for a balanced composition and a carefully selected colour palette. My subject matter is largely abstract but I do have some representational pieces in my oeuvre. My style and execution is bold and free (much like me!) and although I experiment with different genres, sizes and mediums, it is my large scale abstract resin works that have proven the most popular to date.
How long have you been practicing as an artist?
I began painting as an occupation not long after becoming a mum. After the birth of my first daughter I wanted a job that would enable me to reignite my creative passions and maximise time spent with my young family. After taking a resin painting workshop my art studio followed suit… and the rest, as they say, is history!
When do you feel your most creative?
The creative process for me is not just about what happens in the studio, although that is of course where the real magic happens. I always envision my paintings and series of works long before I actually paint them, and I never start a work until I have a set vision. Often, I will come up with an idea for an artwork or concept for a series whilst running, after a yoga session or more recently, swimming in the bay. Getting the endorphins going and spending time in nature seems to be conducive to my creative process.
What have you been working on recently?
At the moment I am in the final stages of completing three commissions for Crown Sydney, Sydney’s six-star luxury hotel resort at Barangaroo on Sydney Harbour. The largest piece Verve which measures almost 2 x 3m, will take pride of place in the Gaming Room, and I am so excited to see the whole space be brought to life over the next few months! Crown Sydney is such an exclusive project, and I am honoured to have my art featured as part of this iconic Australian landmark.
