Ones to Watch: Giorgia McRae

Outstanding artists to have on your radar right now. Charlotte Middleton writes.

Emerging multi-disciplinary artist Giorgia McRae lives and works in Sydney. Her practice traverses two- and three-dimensional mediums, using both the painted canvas and sculpted steel. With overt nods to Cubism and Modernism, McRae distorts familiar imagery to create abstracted compositions that maintain a sense of balance and harmony through simplicity of form and palette. Although intentionally separate, a dynamic dialogue exists between her drawing and sculptural practices through shared motifs and colour palettes. Since graduating from the National Art School, Sydney in 2020, McRae’s work has featured in group exhibitions at Harvey Galleries and .M Contemporary, both in Sydney, and she presented a debut solo exhibition at Saint Cloche, Sydney in 2021. Most recently, McRae showed with the Affordable Art Fair and will be part of an exhibition at Mr Minty’s Gallery, Potts Point in late November 2022.
