How would you describe your artwork?
We create furniture, objects and lighting that embody craftsmanship, functional art and texture. Each unique piece is meticulously crafted by our artisans, elevating the overall artistry and functionality of our pieces.
What materials do you use?
We use a selection of curated natural plasters and microcement, with the incorporation of organic elements adding a sense of warmth and earthiness. Microcement is a versatile material, commonly used for furniture with modern and minimalist aesthetics, and it offers excellent durability and water-resistant properties. The choice of materials depends on the specific design, the intended functionality of the object and the desired aesthetic.
When did you first fall in love with art?
My passion for design started through Beach Break Interiors, our architectural finishes company, with the exposure to craftsmanship and premium materials expanding my skill set and taste for design. My ideas are intuitive, and Dean’s traditional plastering expertise and joinery experience give our creations authenticity, with his dedication to detail ensuring that each piece is crafted with precision.
Is there anything special about your studio?
We are based in beautiful Mount Maunganui, Tauranga. We have a combined showroom with Beach Break Interiors, where clients have access to a variety of finishes, colours and materials for a tactile and visual experience. This allows clients to personalise their selections and enhances the customisation process.
How do you both collaborate?
Our creative process starts with a fully formed idea, and then we work backwards to refine and develop the design. The collaborative aspect of working with Dean brings diverse viewpoints to the table, and our discussions can lead to deeper explorations of ideas and more refined and well-thought-out plans.
What does a typical day in the studio involve?
We have very busy lives, with two businesses and two young kids. A day in the studio involves a blend of creative design work, admin, hands-on craftsmanship and client interactions.
What is your purpose?
Our purpose is to provide exclusive, made-to-order designs that are not mass produced. We collaborate with clients and designers to create one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect their personal styles and aesthetics, and so our aim is to create timeless pieces for the design minded.
