Designer’s Brief: Carmen Delprat

Industry-leading interior designer Simone Haag creates bespoke looks for these five works of art.

Carmen Delprat, Rose Murex Dreaming, 2022. Coloured pencil on paper, 73 x 101cm, framed and mounted, $4,900.

This portrait by Carmen Delprat radiates with ethereality and mystique. A provocative tension exists between the swirling suggestion of movement and the subject’s composed grace. The jostling of ying and yang in this work would translate beautifully into styling to create spaces that feel meaningful and intriguing. Delprat’s painting pulls me towards colours that find a compromise between the dark and the light. The Moebel Palette table with its layered plum and rose hues. Kelly Wearstler’s Bayliss Table Lamp in black and the edgy expression of the porcelain L’Objet Timna Bowl lean into the darkness while the gentle linear sweep and luxe tactility of the Cappelen Dimyr No. 4 rug by Tigmi Trading tempers it to introduce harmony.
