One’s to Watch: Baden Croft

THE ART EDIT TEAM PRESENTS THE ARTISTS ON ITS RADAR RIGHT NOW.

Emotionally evocative and imbued with a distinct connection to place, Baden Croft’s landscape paintings are informed by his observations of the vulnerability of the natural environment. Baden’s works are increasingly about the impact humans are having on the environment, in particular his Mornington Peninsula surrounds. “Visiting these idyllic places, it always strikes me how fragile the natural beauty is,” he says. “I want my works to depict what we have now and cherish it, whilst encouraging the viewer to question their own part in the evident demise of the natural world.” His signature painterly strokes are an ode to this fragility while his rich, thick colours communicate the persistent strength of our stressed environment.
