Nadia Düsselberg works in the moment. Not before. Not after. The meaning of each work is often hard to pin down as elements disappear and reappear under her fast and free gestures. “Often the meaning presents itself after the painting is completed,” she says. “I painted over a lot of words. It did say, ‘I am everything that is and everything that is yet to be’. Through the painting process I chose to paint out most of the words, simply leaving ‘everything is everything’.” While oil, pencil and tissue paper are Nadia’s primary mediums, intuition plays the biggest part in the process. For Nadia, portraying authenticity and truth is a process of trial and error: forms are constructed only to be deconstructed, words are written only to be rewritten. Talking to ideas of interconnectedness, time and being, this work is enduring in its presence.
