Ones to Watch:Stella T. Nguyen

Outstanding artists to have on your radar right now. Maddy Matheson writes.

Stella T. Nguyen explores the many facets of the human condition through a contemplative state of reflection, research, and meticulous planning of her shoots. But there is also a place for spontaneity within her photography. She finds herself taking cues from the natural environment and instinctively creates works based on these interactions. Nguyen holds a Bachelor of Education, a Masters in Experiential and Creative Arts Practice in Arts Therapy and is currently working towards an Advanced Diploma in Photography, as well as teaching Visual Arts. She has won multiple consecutive Australian Institute of Professional Photography Awards from 2016 to 2018 and has exhibited at the MIECAT Institute, the Ruffian Gallery and BLACKCAT Gallery in Melbourne, and was part of the Ballarat Foto Biennale. She is the recent recipient of an arts grant from the City of Melbourne which she is utilising to develop her ongoing series Metamorphosis: Interrupted. Nguyen is experimenting with augmented reality to push the boundaries of her photography, which she hopes to exhibit later this year.
