Art Edit has selected Kate Belvedere as an outstanding artist to have on your radar.
“My work is an attempt to grapple at what it is to be human in an ever-changing cosmos,” says early-career artist Kate Belvedere. Residing in North-East Victoria, Belvedere graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2017, specialising in sculpture. For several years she was a studio artist and teacher at Montsalvat Arts Centre and has added oil painting, printmaking, and ceramics to her practice. Fascinated by nature and its indifference to human emotions, Belvedere’s work explores themes of decay and renewal, deep time and impermanence. As she continues to find her stride across an impressive array of mediums, the past few years have seen Belvedere named as a finalist in numerous awards including the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing (2019), Editions Printmaking Prize (2022), and the Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Award (2023).
