This work is a visual balm to look at. The colour palette and gentle, restrained mark making are in themselves a delight to take in. The lines and marks appear to dance and allude to the musical aspect as intended by the artist. The abstraction of seeds and flora from the Australian bush is a lovely narrative beautifully explored. The artists resistance to overworking the piece or filling all the space is also a strength of this work.

Carolyn Lee’s painting Counterpoint alludes to the details of Australian flora, isolating and layering nature’s shapes through the artist’s lens to create an abstract composition. I can feel the tension between the quiet beauty and chaos of our environment in this oil
and acrylic piece.
