This painting has been tucked away in my private collection, every now and then one of the favourites needs to find a home. This work is from my time in New Zealand and was such a pleasure to paint, I wanted to capture the ruggedness of the landscape.
On this particular morning the moon was still hanging in the turbulent sky, the Macrocarpa tree grown at angle due to the menacing winds up on the ridge.
It is textural work with lots of paint mixed with wax medium.
I love how different landscapes require me to think about paint and how it needs to be applied and how the landscape forces me to consider the way in which I convey my vision on the canvas.
