The Loves & Life of Greg & Luke was conceived one night in a flamenco bar in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Queensland-based painter Steven Bordonaro, was travelling with his wife through Spain when they met the couple – Greg, a trainer of Spanish horses, and Luke, a fellow artist. “Greg and Luke asked me to paint a depiction of their lives and recent travels,” says Steven, “together with their passions, in my stylised representations.” The painting is a rich narrative that intertwines the lives of Steven’s sitters with his own. Greg’s Maltese heritage is woven with Luke’s English roots, Stevens wife dances flamenco while he sits playing guitar. With vibrant acrylics and clean sharp lines, the artist tells the tale of friendship, love and life, all the while being playful and openminded about the work’s meaning. “The viewer can get lost in stories that are there to discover, stories that may make them reminisce a moment in their life that made them smile.”
