Artist Sara Freeman draws her cues from the meditative colour fields of her surrounding landscape. For Sara, this fascination with meditation and Zen comes from a place deep within herself. “Being truly present is ultimately radical and transforming,” she says. These sentiments are clear in her work Coming Home, in which Sara uses colour and texture to explore warmth, nourishment, and a sense of what she describes as “at-home-ness”. Coming Home’s subtle lines sweep across a rich sunset background, reminding us of soundwaves or ripples in water. The artist finds wax and egg tempera allow for a unique textural quality, as well as the potential for body and volume on a 2D canvas. In Sara’s work we find ourselves lost in a sea of formless waves.
