For artist Jo Langley abstraction is a balancing act between having a plan and letting go. In Tifanie, a memory of landscape hides within the shadows while pure abstraction, line and form prevail. Raw white paper defines the strength and drama of Jo’s scene, transparent brush strokes giving the work delicacy and whimsy. “I can’t resist regularly rotating my painting as I work – it provides another perspective and helps with decision making about what to leave, what to add and what to remove,” tells Jo. “More often than not plans are abandoned as the artwork asserts its own direction.”
