Honouring the classical timelessness of form, colour and composition, Melbourne-based artist Hilton Owen attempts to transform what he sees into something elemental and essential. Hilton’s acrylic works examine the everyday aesthetics of our society and aim to convey the essence of contemporary life by stripping back superlative noise and focusing on simplicity. He uses photographs as reference points, referring to dominant lines and shapes to inform the visual possibilities of his paintings. Enhancing form and elongating line allows Hilton to transform everyday mundanity into visual fascination. In 2019 Hilton completed an honours year at the Victorian College of the Arts and currently works from his studio in Collingwood.
