This is a versatile diptych for the contemporary interior which is ideally positioned side-by-side, but could ultimately be separated or hung vertically. The work offers a stylish reference to the earth, bringing together elements of land and water. I am drawn to the composition of form and the ever so slight tonal variations present throughout the work. This stunning work would be perfect for a spacious neutral room where the colour and forms could become the focus of the room.

GEORGIA HUESTIS

The Affordable Art Fair, Melbourne

Voices whisper and nature sways in this layered painting by Paula Payne. A subdued yet warm colour palette comforts as the silhouetted fern leaf elegantly masks a background of the unknown. As the title suggests, in this diptych the two canvases speak to one another. Although, given the interpretive nature of abstraction, these whispers encourage and welcome the viewer to establish their own narrative and connection to the piece.

SALLI COPPIN

Margaret River Gallery, Margaret River

Paula’s use of layered imagery on first glance conveys to us a sense of time. Through her use of shape and colour, she creates an organic feel to her work, indicating that the environment is important to her. One has the sense that there is much to be said – there is a depth of knowing or wanting to understand. This work is soft and subtle, yet strong. It is an interesting piece that one will never tire of as it seems to unveil itself the more it is observed and felt.
