Rainy Day – Tivoli, Italy. Pastel, 30 x 48cm.
KAB Gallery, Terrigal
Pastel is a beautiful medium that enables the artist to work on a dark background. The rough, grainy surface adds interest while the darker shades poke through the highlights – all-in-all the perfect medium for this rainy scene. Margaret McEntee has worked the medium beautifully to highlight the perspective with a clever approach. By emphasising the rainy highlights she has brought a lovely sense of energy. With all the figures heading away from the viewer we are clueless as to where they are all walking to together in the rain, inviting us to use our imagination.

Thomgallery, Byron Bay
Margaret exhibits an experienced handling of the delicate and often difficult medium: pastel. Using perspective to magnify the illusion of depth, we are drawn into and through this beautifully depicted Italian street scene. Full of visual texture, colour transitions and blurry reflections, this work would be best served by framing it behind conservation glass.
