New York-based artist Christy Powers is well versed in exhibiting her work internationally. With shows in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Chicago this year as well as Australia, Denmark and France, her paintings are getting a tour of the globe. Christy’s work investigates two concepts: the role that photography plays in memory making, and the relationship between painting and photography. For Christy, ephemerality is a lived experience and her works create a space in which memory is both a fiction and a reality. Details are removed, colours are changed and figures are blurred so that the viewer can project their own memories onto the work.
