Kartini Thomas is an American artist based in Toulouse, France. Her prior work as a biologist greatly influences her drawings and ceramic sculptures, which exist on the overlap between attraction and repulsion, fascination and disgust. They often resemble petri dish colonies of fun-loving, colorful bacteria. Inviting us to change skins, change scale or just embrace the ridiculous, Kartini’s works explore ideas of biodiversity, monstrousness, otherhood.
