Gitte Backhausen is a Danish-born Australian artist living on the South Coast of NSW. A multidisciplinary artist with a practice in abstract painting and printmaking, she explores the human experience through abstraction, with a strong connection to nature. “I am a studio artist, however, I draw great inspiration from the world around me. I often refer to my work as ‘subconscious abstract landscapes’ as they are a free expression of what is within, but often has a reference to nature. My interest in psychology further informs my work as I question our roles in the world and how to navigate the human experience.” Regularly selected as a finalist in art prizes, Backhausen’s work and career continues to expand. She furthermore enjoys sharing her love for the creative process with others through workshops, supporting artists in developing their own unique visual language and building trust in their work.
