Freya Tripp is a Tasmanian born artist working between Central Australia and Northern NSW. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours from Southern Cross University and a Masters of Arts (Research) from Charles Darwin University. Taking as her subject the politics of gender, landscape and belonging, she looks to attitudes towards idenitity which were endangered in the 19th century in Australia. Particular conventions concepts and aesthetics act as focusing devices wherein the stable is transformed into something unstable. Still life and landscape traditions dictate her painting practice.
