Elisabeth Howlett is an oil painter working in impasto from her home studio in Adelaide, South Australia. Her works reflect a painterly, expressive style. Using lavish quantities of oil paint to describe her subject, Howlett emphasises the impression of each brushstroke; leaving an array of texture, movement and light on the canvas. Central to her art practice is depicting flowers, particularly arrangements in a vase, and especially foraged flowers native to Australia. Room ‘interiors’ – fabrics, textures, colours, and surfaces have more recently inspired her, particularly a moody interior landscape. Elisabeth also enjoys the occasional portrait.
