Cecilia Mok is an artist and surface designer in Sydney. She studied fine arts at the Julian Ashton Art School and fashion design at East Sydney Technical College, and has worked as a designer in graphics, print and textiles. She also teaches at a children’s art studio. Cecilia was recently honoured as the recipient of The Little Things Art Prize 2018 (Wall Works category) with Sunday on the River, a landscape of a river scene with her family in a rowboat.
The artist is drawn to themes of storytelling and the subconscious. Painting is a process of personal communication – seeing a subject and recording it through the lens of her own mind, heart and experience. As it is said, we do not see things as they are, we see them as we are. That is the value of painting, to see something and add much more than just what is visible, to imbue in it a slight refraction of reality, a personal memory, an emotional experience.
