An internationally award-winning artist, Betty Collier – a former tertiary teacher from Ballarat – embraces nature in both 2- and 3-D forms. Betty uses watercolours, inks, wood, mild steel to oxy weld, stone and wax for bronzes to explore the natural world around her.
Alabaster has been carved to display her cluster groups where abstracted cliff and mushroom forms have evolved as smooth tactile and often bulbous formations, imprinting their physical presence on the viewer.
In other works Betty has looked for personality traits in her series of roosters as they take on images of power and characterizations as in Napoleon and Lord Nelson, while her bronze frogs have a knowing energetic and watchful personality or display imperfections.
This continual diversity fuels her artistic creations and has been a driving force for over 50 years
