Tifanie is an abstract acrylic work. Organic shapes playfully draw on memory of landscape and a subconsciousness of archetypal motifs. It is a simple, dynamic composition containing large areas of paint and raw white paper contrasted and punctuated by overlapping layers of paint both thick and thin, linear detail and pattern. Acrylic paint readily lends itself to layering. Once it is dry more layers can be added without picking up what is underneath. Medium can be added to create body or add translucency. Wet on wet techniques can also be used as per oil paint. In developing this painting, I resisted the urge to overwork in my resolve to create an artwork that has a freshness and liveliness. The artwork is strong, dynamic and dramatic, while – as the name Tifanie suggests – possessing a delicate, shimmering, ephemeral quality.
