Ticking Over Time, a painting by Daniel Breda

Description

Breda’s work reflects the juxtaposition of organic and mechanical space we experience in contemporary space. This interest stems from the concept of “dynamic sensation”, outlined in the 1909 Futurist manifesto. Aligning with this theory, Breda executes his practice under the gaze of the Italian Futurists, with reference to the Australian landscape and synthetic coloured hard edge abstraction.

This work is a part of a new series that continues this theme, where Breda has juxtaposed hyper synthetic colour with a stripped back tonal representation of cloud formations. The colour palette of these works are directly inspired by the 2019 summer bushfires which has informed Breda’s practice over the last year of painting during times of isolation in the pandemic.
