My work engages with the field of Expanded Painting. Through sculpture and painting, I explore the idea of the ludic using a playful approach to colour, surface and space. Combining a diverse range of materials such as glass, found objects, scrap wood, and other industrial by-products to create the illusion of movement and interaction between two and three dimensions. In this artwork I explore colour as an object, rather than a medium, manipulating and applying it to materials in non-traditional ways. This composition invites the viewer to imagine and re-enact the chance of play and movement. Inspired by the colour palette of artists such as Mondrian and Miro, reflecting a time when science and technology were advancing rapidly, and playfulness and imagination underpinned major transformations in Western thought.
