Title | Modern Poppies, Watercolour Painting by Laura Horrocks |
Medium | Works on paper |
An abstract depiction of colourful poppy flowers; Modern Poppies is a gouache watercolour painted on paper and signed by Laura Horrocks. This work is influenced by the art movement Orphism led by the female artist Sonia Delaunay in Paris during the 1910s. Post-impressionist flower forms have been abstracted into circles, brushstrokes and contrasting colours.
Composed using a style of abstraction that suggests rhythmic flow and energy via a visual language of pure colour and shapes. Similar to early abstractionists this work is intended by the artist to suggest the underlying essence of the flowers and their sensorial nature.
