In my work Kompression II, I made use of a wooden box, handblown glass, and a balloon. This sculpture is based on my interpretation of compression, tension, weight and balance. To activate the feeling of pressure I inserted a party ballon (rendered in glass) to reinforce the idea of pressure and compression.
When blowing glass, I often do not know what kind of form they take on. This gives me freedom to explore. In other words, it is play as process’- I let the work take on meaning of its own through material exploration.
My work evolved from my interest in ‘colour as a medium’ to encompass other formal qualities such as shape and texture as medium. My interest in both painting and sculpture led me to the concept of play as a process of exchange between the two forms.
