The concept is a friendly and respectful reference based on iconic styles of international artists by coalescing the work of male masters with female masters. My intention is equalise the genders in art. For these paintings, I took the liberty of playing with the work of O’Keeffe, Warhol, Rosalie Gascoigne Matisse, and Mondrian. I use the stencil technique of Pochoir, having in mind the look of Pop Art. I design my own stencils and cut them myself, no computer or machine of any kind is used. I like this quote of Picasso’s “a great artist steals, a good artist copies”. I think what he meant was that when you are able to steal from artwork and transform it into your own, that in itself becomes your style.
