This painting is reminiscent of the simple but distinctive illustrations from the 1960s Dick and Jane readers I grew up with. Their storylines described the lives and experiences of a family in their home. Hanging out like Dick and Jane is about how little some things have changed. My daughters playing beside the pool inspired me. They did all the same things my siblings and I used to when we were their age.
