Description
Colour Cortex is a play on the ability of colour to communicate and how it speaks to the visual cortex of the brain and stimulates emotional responses from the human psyche. This abstract expressionist artwork is acrylic on cotton canvas signed by artist Laura Horrocks. Influenced by the movement of colourist abstraction during the 20th century with a nod to Sonia Delaunay’s ‘simultanéisme’ which refers to the ability of certain colours to visually vibrate when placed alongside one another. This effect causes the visual cortex to process the patches of colour as intensely hued.
